Empowered Community Services is a rapidly growing National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provider for people living with a Disability and Mental Health in Newcastle and The Hunter. Empowered was established in 2017 with a MISSION to better the day-to-day lives of people living with a disability. We provide a person-centred approach to participants whilst working cohesively with family, industry clinicians and professionals to guarantee our consumers receive the best available assistance Newcastle has to offer.
Overview
Empowered Community Services (Empowered) is committed to providing person-centred support that is welcoming, inclusive, and accessible to people with a disability. We encourage, recognise and promote an active commitment to eliminating disability discrimination and to promote the recognition of the rights of people with disability. We recognise the value that people with a disability make to our community, and being a disability service provider, we want to ensure that we are guided by the very people we support.
Objective
The primary role of the Disability Advisory Board is to provide expert and impartial advice to the development and implementation of services and community initiatives at Empowered.
The Disability Advisory Board will meet quarterly with senior managers at Empowered to ensure that the organisation continually works with people with a disability to work toward its mission and vision.
The Disability Advisory Board will use the following strategy to achieve this objective;
Provide input to policy development, review, and strategic planning.
Advise on issues that people with a disability face in the local community and information on areas where people with a disability require support or services.
Provide information on how Empowered as a whole can become more accessible.
Advise on how to identify issues that are relevant to people with a disability.
Assist with the development and progress of Empowered’s Disability Action Plan.
Applicants must outline that they;
(i) Have lived experience of disability or;
(ii) Are a Carer of a Person with a Disability and;
(iii) Live in the Hunter New England Area
(iii) Submit a statement* outlining how they meet the selection criteria and how this relates to the responsibilities of the panel.
